Additional Information

Dutch Still Life painters have, for as long as I can remember, been inspirational. Their mastery of light and the ability to recreate our natural world with incredible illusion has always captivated me. The experience of building and cultivating my own perennial
garden has allowed a deeper understanding of flowers and plants with all their complexity of forms, colours, varieties and growth patterns.

My paintings here are from photo shoots I have done using my own botanical garden array. The influence of working on film as a scenic painter followed through in these photo shoots as I had great fun exploring the staging and lighting. Equally exciting is the choice of props to accompany the flowers from my garden. The vessels I have in my compositions are chosen carefully for their shape and character, while the delicate
doilies and scarves were my mother's.

The bird element is a new component that is gently showing up. The birds are reflective of vanitas paintings which often include many animal species along with florals. In my current work they have more personal significance. My garden and neighbourhood are
filled with a multitude of bird families. These paintings represent a glimpse into the little sanctuary I call home. It's a space that represents the abundance of nature that I
cherish and continue to learn from.
