The ARTICULATE was utilized in shallow water combat to slip thru seaweed forests by tensioning repurposed jumping cables to cause the very thin hull to curve to the right or left. Such manipulations unfortunately created stress fatigue on the hull mid ship. The vessel took on water in 1948 thru a stress crack. Luckily the water was only 12 feet deep and the crew of 5 easily abandoned ship and waded to shore.
