This drum titled: "The Ocean Drum" displays the Mi'kmaq Eight Pointed Star and eight double curve patterns painted ocean blue, and symbolize life on the ocean; traveling; foraging; making a living off the land; and connection to nature. It is believed that a single double curve design represents the cycle of life. The curve on the left represents birth; the centre of the curve middle age; and the curve on the right represents becoming a senior or an Elder. Other teachings discuss that the double curve designs resemble ancient Mi'kmaq Birch Bark Canoes, and symbolize our spiritual journey.
The Mi’kmaq Star is an ancient petroglyph(carving in stone) which displays ‘Mi’kmaq Pride’ and unity amongst all the cultures of the world through the medicine wheel colours.
All the designs in this drum show that we are all connected through our love of land, nature and the ocean.
