The Lobster Spirit Drum

In this drum titled “The Lobster (Jakej) Spirit Drum” we celebrate the spirit of one of our most cherished ocean creatures, or, marine crustaceans. The lobster is displaying its spiritual energy by showing us that the designs inside its soul are being reflected around the drum. 

   In Atlantic Canada, the lobster, or Jakej, is seen as a symbol of family gathering and togetherness that takes place every summer. The continuous double curve designs in a circular pattern represent family and community holding hands, and embracing the importance of the lobster (Jakej) in our lives. We give thanks to the lobster, and all living things on Mother Earth, for all that they provide us. Msit No’kmaq (All My Relations-We Are All Connected).
