HMS Herring

Active during the later part of WWII these GATO class submersibles derive their names from aquatic creatures, namely the Herring  given the unmistakeable giant porthole on bow it’s easy to see why .  Even the naming of the class of sub was influenced by catsharks. Sadly she was sunk by Japanese fire during a routine patrol of cargo ship attacks. All on board were lost and the exact location of the sinking  is not known.
