HMCS Schnoz was so named for its bow mounted water sampling cone as well as the fact its' overall hull design resembled a bulbous nose. Primarily used to take water samples and detect drops of oil in the waste water of enemy vessels in order to track their locations from a distance, it was soon rendered obsolete by advancements in oil filters.
