HMCS Brassica

The submersible BRASSICA , similar to the SAXO in length and dimensions,  featured a striking brass bow cone — a design element that inspired her name. Unfortunately, “Brassica” is also the scientific genus for vegetables like broccoli and cabbage. This fact provided endless amusement to the French, who mercilessly taunted her crew when on shore leave at the pubs, calling them cabbage heads or simply les broccolis.
