About the Artist

Artist Bio

Alison Grapes is primarily an acrylic painter. Trained in Ontario and at NSCAD in Halifax, NS, Alison went on to teach Visual Arts in the Nova Scotia and Saskatchewan Education systems. While teaching in Saskatoon, Alison completed a Canada 150 project traveling sections of the Trans Canada Highway, in her little Toyota Matrix, to find imagery in order to paint and document Canada at two hundred years old. This experience solidified her love for the natural landscape, which has been a steady factor in her work since retiring from teaching. In 2017, she was delighted to discover that her painting, “The Corner”, was a Finalist in The Artist's Magazine 34th Annual Art Competition. Alison has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions. She is an Associate Member of the Society of Canadian Artists.



Alison Grapes’ paintings have found new homes in private collections in numerous countries, as well as at The University of Western Ontario and The Art Ontario Gallery. Originally from Ontario, Alison calls Sydney, Nova Scotia home with her husband, Richard. They have three children and seven grandchildren.
